About the Institution 

Founded in 1988, the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) is the UAE’s largest applied higher educational institution, renowned for its agile, innovative & job-focused education practices, such as experiential and hybrid learning; enhancing its standing as the Campus of Tomorrow.

Approximately 23,000 students attend 16 modern, technology-oriented men’s and women’s campuses throughout the UAE, in the cities of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and the Al Dhafrah region. HCT employs more than 2,000 staff, from over 80 nationalities, who share professional practices and innovative ideas, enriching the HCT community.

HCT offers over 70 academic majors in the programs Applied Media, Business, Computer Information Science, Education, Engineering Technology & Science and Health Sciences. These programs are all designed in consultation with business and industry leaders, incorporating principles of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to ensure HCT students’ skills are up-to-date and to the highest standards. The HCT 4.0 strategic plan, which is strongly aligned to the goals of the UAE National Vision 2021, the National Employment Strategy 2031 add Projects of the 50, equips UAE’s national workforce with future skills required in the labor market and empowers graduates to be familiar with technological updates, while enhancing their technical and general skills, so as to keep pace with accelerating job changes dictated by the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as Artificial Intelligence. As a result, HCT is a vital contributor to the UAE’s national agendas, such as providing education opportunities for all Emirati youth, through life-long learning and career advancement opportunities.

Facilities

HCT campuses are fully equipped with state-of-the art educational technologies academic facilities including modern classrooms, auditoriums, laboratories, workshop stations and libraries. HCT ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Admission and placement in all HCT credential programs are subject to the following criteria:

General Admission Requirements 

Applicants who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply for admission to the Higher Colleges of Technology according to the admission policy and regulations for the relevant programs:

They have passed the government General School Certificate (GSC) or its equivalent with a minimum average of 60%.

They have completed the Emirates Standardized TestEmSAT in English or equivalent.

In accordance with the following mechanisms and criteria:

Applied Track: (Applied Bachelor) Programs

1- MoE Graduates of the Elite Stream or equivalent, fulfilling the following criteria: 

  • Minimum GSC overall average of 60% for all programs except Education, Pharmacy and Nursing programs (Minimum GSC average of 65 % for Nursing, minimum GSC average of 70% for Education, and minimum GSC average of 80% for Pharmacy) or equivalent.
  • Minimum EmSAT-English score of 1100 or equivalent. 
  • Minimum EmSAT-Arabic score of 800 for Education & Pharmacy programs, and minimum 600 for Nursing program or equivalent. 
  • Minimum EmSAT-Math score of 900 or equivalent for Pharmacy program and minimum 700 for nursing and Education programs or equivalent.
  • 900 or higher in two of three science subjects (EmSAT -Chemistry, EmSAT- Biology, or EmSAT- Physics) or equivalent for Pharmacy. 700 or higher in two of three science subjects (EmSAT -Chemistry, EmSAT- Biology, or EmSAT- Physics) or equivalent for Nursing.
  • Pass the personal interview for Education, Pharmacy & Nursing programs only.  Admissions to be offered to students who wish to join these majors will be conditional until passing the personal interview.

2- MoE Graduates of the Advanced Stream or equivalent, fulfilling the following criteria: 

Minimum GSC overall average of 60% for non-Engineering Technology programs and Marine Transport programs excluding Bachelor of Pharmacy, Nursing & Education.

Minimum GSC overall average of 70% for Engineering Technology programs excluding Marine Transport Program. 

Minimum EmSAT-English score of 1100 or equivalent.

3- MoE Graduates of the General Stream or equivalent, fulfilling the following criteria: 

 Minimum GSC overall average of 70% for non-Engineering Technology programs and Marine Transport Programs excluding Bachelor of Pharmacy, Nursing & Education.

For Engineering Technology programs excluding Marine Transport Program:

  • Minimum GSC overall average of 80%. 
  • Minimum EmSAT-Math score of 800. 
  • Minimum EmSAT-Physics score of 750 Or minimum EmSAT-Chemistry score of 600
  • Minimum EmSAT- English score of 1100 or equivalent. 

4- MoE Graduates of Applied Stream or equivalent eligible for admissions consideration in Business and Engineering Technology programs only must fulfill the following criteria:

For Business Program:

Minimum GSC overall average of 70% 

Minimum EmSAT-Math score of 450. 

For Engineering Technology programs excluding Marine Transport Program: 

Minimum GSC overall average of 80%. 

Minimum EmSAT-Math score of 800. 

Minimum EmSAT-Physics score of 750 Or minimum EmSAT-Chemistry score of 600

Minimum EmSAT- English score of 1100 or equivalent. 

5- MoE Graduates of the General and Advanced Streams, fulfilling the following criteria for Education programs: 

Minimum GSC overall average of 70% for Elite stream or equivalent, 75% for Advanced Stream and 80% for General Stream or Equivalent.

Minimum EmSAT-Arabic score of 800.

Minimum EmSAT- Math score of 700 or equivalent. iv. Minimum EmSAT-English score of 1100 or equivalent.

Pass the personal interview, admissions to be offered to students who wish to join this major will be conditional until passing the personal interview.

6- Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Pharmacy:

Minimum GSC overall average of 85% for Advanced Stream or Equivalent and a minimum of 80% for Elite Stream or equivalent only.

EmSAT-Arabic >= 800 or Equivalent.

EmSAT-Math>= 900 or Equivalent.

900 or higher in two of three science subjects (EmSAT -Chemistry, EmSAT- Biology or EmSAT- Physics) or equivalentm.

Minimum EmSAT-English score of 1100 or equivalent.

Pass the personal interview, admissions to be offered to students who wish to join this major will be conditional until passing the personal interview

7- Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Nursing:

  • Minimum GSC overall average of 80% for General Stream, a minimum of 70% for Advanced Stream, and a minimum of 65% for Elite Stream or equivalent.
  • EmSAT-Arabic >= 600 or Equivalent. 
  • EmSAT-Math>= 700 or Equivalent.
  • 700 or higher in two of three science subjects (EmSAT -Chemistry, EmSAT- Biology or EmSAT- Physics) or equivalentm.
  • Minimum EmSAT-English score of 1100 or equivalent.
  • Pass the personal interview, admissions to be offered to students who wish to join this major will be conditional until passing the personal interview 

8- To be qualified for Emergency Medical Services, applicants must:

–  Pass personal interview

–  Pass fitness test

In certain cases, and upon directives from HCT top management, applicants who don’t meet any of the aforementioned criteria can be considered for admission in certain programs.

English Proficiency Requirements

To enter a Bachelor’s program at the HCT, students must have achieved an EmSAT English score of at least 1100, or a band of 5.0 in Academic IELTS. Students who have not achieved the equivalent of EmSAT 1100 may be admitted conditionally to certain programs. To be considered for their final admission, they must successfully complete 1-2 prerequisite English Communication courses, within one academic year, before enrolling in program course.
